Cinder Point sits on a coastal bluff where the client’s only firm requirement was that the house not be visible from the coastal trail 200 feet below. The final massing is a single low volume stepped into the hillside, faced in a locally quarried stone chosen specifically because it was expected to weather toward the same gray-brown tone as the surrounding cliff face within roughly a decade.
Cinder Point received an AIA California Design Award in 2024 and a Wallpaper* Design Award in 2020.
