Foundry Street Arts Center occupies a former ironworks two blocks from our own studio. The client’s brief was unusually specific: they wanted the building’s industrial section — a two-story foundry floor with a working crane rail still installed overhead — left substantially untouched.
Our primary intervention is a switchback concrete stair connecting the new upper-level galleries to the original foundry floor below, wide enough to double as informal tiered seating for up to 200 people during performances and screenings.
The crane rail was retained and re-certified for light structural use, now carrying a track-mounted lighting rig for the performance floor below.
Architizer awarded the project its A+ Award for Cultural architecture in 2025.
