Loess Ridge houses a rotating team of up to twelve soil scientists studying erosion patterns across a remote ridge system with no grid utility access. The station operates fully independent of external power and water for months at a stretch, and its final construction budget came in under the client’s original estimate despite the site’s remoteness — largely because the structure was designed for helicopter-transportable modular delivery from the outset, rather than adapted to it after the fact.
Loess Ridge received a Dezeen Award for Sustainable Building in 2023.
